Our Philosophy
From One Fish To Another
One of the things that makes owning a small business fun is that you get to choose who you work with. We get to work with people who recognize that conventional solutions are not going to solve unconventional problems.
We work best with innovative risk takers who dare to try something different because they’re looking for different results.
We care about:
- The power of play to enhance your world, your business, and your life.
- The power of improvisation to prepare you for the unexpected.
- The power of a proactive approach in a reactive world.
We’re committed to sustainability and support that triple bottom line by investing in human capital and our environment…both of which will ultimately grow the economy too.
We’re committed to growing diversity by helping companies treasure the people they have and welcome the ones they don’t yet.
Contact us if this sounds like the direction you would like to take. We promise the ride will be fun and the destination rewarding. Mary Jane Pories, President Fishladder Inc.
Improvisers may not want you to know that…
It’s not winging it.
Improvisation is…
A skill. That means it can be learned. Improvisers agree on a series of default behaviors known to help them be effective, playful problem solvers. These are intellectually agreed upon, practiced behaviors to be used in the moment. The more they practice the better they get. The more they trust each other the more reliable the results. The more fun they have, the more innovative the solutions.
“…being present in the moment so that you can spontaneously take effective and intelligent action in that moment.”
Mary Jane Pories
Improvisation as Art…
Is a form of theater in which participants perform spontaneously, without a script. The actors invent and discover the dialogue and action as they perform. Improvisation creates an active relationship with the participants and the audience; collaboration among all provides the impetus to inspire all. The unpredictable nature of such an interaction elicits excitement and entertainment for everyone involved.
Improvisational Training…
Is more effective than traditional training. Why? Traditional methods don’t adequately address adult experiential learning styles. The result is that the content does not engage or inspire the participant to real effective action and behavioral change.
Improvisation is a learning platform involving a system of skills that facilitate the process of idea development through collaboration.
